Regardless of how hard you try, you can't really hide your files on a computer, without some kind of special application. An excellent solution is ENC DataVault, which helps you secure any documents, photos or other files you deem important. The software lets you create vaults and use them to keep your data safe from people who would love to get your hands on your sensitive documents, account numbers or passwords. You can have everything locked away and carry on with your daily activities, without worrying about anything that would lead to stolen information.

Though it comes with a price tag, a free trial is available for 15 days, so you can try the program and evaluate its capabilities. Downloading the setup file and installing its components is a straightforward operation, which doesn't take more than a minute to complete. There are no prerequisite tools to install, and you won't notice any impact on your system's performance.

Before you can do anything, you have to create a password-protected account, in which you have to log each time you run the program. Creating vaults and populating them with files is quite easy. Vaults are created and opened just like folders, on the upper half of the user interface. You can explore your local files and folders on the lower half of the window, and you can simply click and drag one or more files to a vault to store them.

Once your data is in a vault, you can organize it however you want, in folders and sub-folders. What's more, the software comes with synchronization capabilities, which make it much easier to add new data to a vault. If you target a folder as a sync peer for one of your vaults, you will be able to send all files from that folder to your vault with a single click. Also, the software comes with versioning control, so you don't need to worry about overwriting your files.

The program lets you create as many vaults as you need. They are stored as encrypted files on your hard drive, in a location of your choice. There is no way of accessing a vault, besides the program's interface. When you're logged in, you can access all your vaults, like normal folders, without being asked for a password each time. Once you're done adding and organizing files, you can just click a button to lock everything. Also, you don't have to worry if you have to leave your computer and forget to log out, because the program will do so automatically after a few minutes, so no one will stumble upon the contents of your vaults.

With ENC DataVault installed on your system, all your important files will stay safe no matter what.

Pros

You can keep your files safe in vaults. The software lets you create any number of vaults and protect them with a password. It comes with synchronization capabilities, versioning control, as well as data backup options.

Cons

The trial version's nag messages are a bit too many.
